How to modify the volume for each clip on timeline

Having a volume control toggle option is helpful when editing your video clips, whether you’re looking to keep the volume of your entire video project at a certain level or you want to adjust the volume for specific clips in your video project.

With Typito, you can adjust the audio of your video at two levels:

  • Clip volume: adjust the existing volume of individual clips in your video project.

  • Background Track or Track Audio: adjust the volume of an overlay track added to your video.

There are two ways you can edit the volume of your video on Typito:

  1. Adjust the volume for the entire video project

  2. Adjust the volume for each clip

1. Adjust volume for the entire project

You can adjust the volume of the entire video project. This means that the audio you set will stay the same for the whole length of your video project.

You can adjust the existing background audio of the video you’ve uploaded or any music added to your video at a project level.

Adjust the existing audio for your entire project

  1. Click the media clip on your timeline to view Media Clip Options on the left panel

  2. You will find the ‘Clip Volume’ option under the Volume drop-down tab.

  3. Adjust the slider to change the volume of the existing background audio for the entire video.

Adjust the added background track audio for your entire project

  1. Add music to your video. You can either upload your own track or add music from our library.

  2. Click the rotating disc icon to view options for Background Track.

  1. You will find the ‘Track Audio’ option under the Volume drop-down tab.

  2. Adjust the slider to change the volume of the added background audio for the entire video.

Note: Track Audio’ allows you to change the volume of the audio that you’ve uploaded to the project in Typito.

2. Adjust the volume for each clip

This allows you to change the volume for each clip in your video project.

Note: If your project consists of a single video clip, but you still want to adjust the volume at certain parts of the video, you will first need to split the clip at the section where you want to adjust the volume, and then follow the steps below to adjust the volume for each clip.

Adjust the existing audio on a clip

You can adjust the existing audio of a clip to lower the volume or mute certain clips.

1. Select a clip on your timeline to adjust its volume.

2. You will find the ‘Clip Volume’ option under the Volume drop-down tab.

Adjust the slider to change the volume of the selected clip.

Adjust the added background track audio on a clip

1. Click the rotating disc icon to view options for Background Track.

2. You will find the ‘Track Audio’ option under the Volume drop-down tab.

3. Enable the option 'Enable adjustments at each clip.’

You can now adjust the volume of the audio for each clip. Select a clip on the timeline and adjust the Background Track under the Volume drop-down tab.

Note: Once this option is enabled, you will note that the 'Track Audio’ is disabled. This means that any audio adjustments you make will be applied only to selected clips.

Note: You can always switch between 'Volume for the project' and 'Volume for each clip' as needed. If you want to go back to setting the volume for the entire video project, disable the 'Enable adjustments at each clip’ toggle under Background Track options.
