If you’re creating videos to distribute them online, captions become crucial. Did you know that 85% of people watching videos on Facebook, watch them with no sound? Captions make such videos more engaging and they also make your videos more accessible to a wider audience including people with disabilities.
Typito let's you create captions using three ways:
- Create Captions Automatically (Using voice to text engine): Learn how
- Uploading a SRT file: Learn how
- Creating captions manually by manually transcribing
If your video has good quality audio and audible voice, you should definitely try out the Automatic speech to text capability (it's pretty accurate!). In case your audio is distorted at places or if you don't have a SRT file, or you want to add subtitles in a language other than English, then you might want to try adding captions manually.
Let's learn how to add captions manually to your project, step by step -
Step 1: Click on 'Captions' tab and choose a subtitle template: Choose a template that fits your use case. We love the one with the highlight.
Step 2: Click on 'Customize fonts & more' - Here, you can make your captions brand compliant by choosing your own brand font and color. Style the captions by changing the size and alignment.
Note: If you are adding captions in a language other than English, please make sure you have uploaded a custom font to Typito that supports that language. Please choose that font in the font selector here as well.
Step 3: Click on 'Next add content'
As mentioned before, you can add captions using 3 ways with Typito. To add captions manually, choose the third option:
Step 4: Click on 'Add manually' - A caption box with a timing of 4 seconds will show up (like shown below). Now you can add a caption by typing the content which corresponds with that section of the video, in the box:
For adding more captions, click on '+ Add caption' button under the first caption box. Each new caption will be placed immediately after.
In order to adjust the timing of any of the captions, you just need to click the respective caption box and drag the in/out handles for the specific caption so that the timing syncs with the spoken audio (the handles show up on the timeline under the caption).
You can also delete any caption boxes by clicking on the 'bin' icon beside any caption box.
That's it, you are all set. Hope this helps. Have fun captioning with Typito!
